George Calombaris’s healthy wholefood cafe Mastic will be relocating to the Mornington Peninsula next year.

The cafe has called Kew home since late 2014, where it has shared a space with one of Calombaris’s Greek restaurants, Hellenic Republic. The relocation means that the often booked-out Hellenic Republic will now have more breathing room.

There are big plans for the new Peninsula location, which is due to open in 2018. Details about the fit-out and seating capacity are still being kept secret.

“But I can say that it will have a gorgeous view of the rainforest,” says Dan Brown, marketing manager for Made Establishment, the group behind Calombaris’s restaurants.

“It will be set on a stunning location in Red Hill on a five -acre property, which backs onto 70 acres of national park.”

Calombaris is excited about the move, praising the Peninsula region for its quality produce, local suppliers and fresh air.

“It’s been a dream of mine to share our Mastic store with the local community down there. It will be worth the wait,” he says. “We’re in the works of finalising all the details and we can’t wait to share them.”

Will they be taking the ping-pong tables with them? We’ll have to wait and see.
