Alejandro Saravia, the chef behind Farmer’s Daughters and Victoria by Farmer’s Daughters at Fed Square, has transformed the ex-Morena space into an elevated new bar and bottle shop. Called Farmer’s Daughters Wine House (naturally), the new venue champions Victorian wines with a particular focus on Gippsland produce.
On October 24, Broadsheet Access members were invited to a preview dinner with paired pours at the cosy new spot. Hosted by Saravia, Farmer’s Daughter sommelier Stephen Amman and three top Victorian winemakers, the night saw guests mingle and chat one-on-one with the wine pros.
Members sampled the bar’s premium snacky menu – including oysters Rockefeller, cured meats, artisan cheeses and sliders with 100 per cent Gippsland grass-fed beef – and, of course, diligently tasted a different wine with each dish.
The Wine House opens up the hefty Farmer’s Daughters cellar – which hosts more than 3000 bottles of wine – to the public.
“We believe that wine should be drunk and enjoyed, not just kept in cellars gathering dust,” Saravia says. And at least some of our Readers’ Preview guests agree, since they were able to purchase featured wines at cellar-door prices on the night.
If you missed out, don’t worry. Broadsheet Access hosts exclusive restaurant previews like this whenever there’s a hot new venue opening in Melbourne or Sydney. To stay in the know, and nab your seat at the next one, join our membership program today.
Did we mention it’s only $12 a month ?
