The team behind American barbeque joint Fancy Hank’s, has just announced Heroes, a new four-level Bourke Street venue.

Owners Kent Bell, Mike Patrick, Daragh Kan and Myles Munro are using the blueprint from their Majestic Hawker pop-up in July, which saw the team collaborate with chef Alicia Cheong on fire-licked South-East Asian hawker dishes.

Research trips to Singapore and Malaysia saw the group pull inspiration from the freewheeling, open-air rooftop dining seen in the region. So Heroes will have its own rooftop bar, underground function space and four private karaoke rooms.

As at Majestic Hawker, Cheong’s menu will focus on the barbeque. Everything will be cooked over fire, sans gas, stoves or ovens. Wings, skewers and barbeque plates will all feature.

Cheong previously ran the kitchen at the original Fancy Hank’s at the Mercat. She’s been back in her native Singapore for the last year working at Michelin-starred restaurant Par Andre.

Co-owner Bell is designing the venue himself. Expect outrageous furnishings, festooned lights and vibrant colours.

An exact location is yet to be announced, but the restaurant aims to open in February 2018.
