Food + Wine Pop Up isn’t the catchiest name for a food and wine pop-up. But at least it does what it says on the tin.
The pop-up will highlight organic and biodynamic wines from Victoria, including Avani’s syrah, with a few of Christensen’s favourite labels from across Australia rounding out the list. Adam Roderick (ex-Tonka bar manager) will assist with front-of-house operations.
Meiers and sous chef Zac Green (ex-MoVida) will drive the a-la-carte menu.
Christensen says the pop-up will celebrate, “where we are, when we are”. She chose Red Hill South’s Avani because it “embodies everything a biodynamic winery should be”.
Chef Meiers doubles as a ceramicist (some of his plates are used at Tonka and IDES), and he has produced a number of bespoke pieces for the pop-up.
The group held a similar, hugely successful pop-up in Fremantle, Western Australia, last October (almost 500 locals signed a petition calling for them to stay put). If all goes well the team will return to Avani for a summer pop-up. It is currently putting out feelers for other potential Australian locations.
Update: Due to popular demand, the pop-up will run for an extra week. A five-course set menu is available on the final day of the pop-up (Sunday 26 June) to help celebrate its success. The cost for the set-menu option is $85 and does not include drinks.
