When the Flour Market hits Melbourne, crowds flock. The last few editions have proven that Melburnians can’t get enough of the sugary, doughy festivities.

But there’s a community craving whole, raw and vegan treats, which have been overlooked in the Flour Market’s past line-ups. To cater to this crowd, Flour Market is introducing a new initiative: Wholey Day.

The new market will follow the same structure as Flour Market, with 20 to 30 of Melbourne’s best bakers all at one site. Wholey Day will showcase vendors that specialise in raw, organic, vegan and gluten-free products. There will be creative and healthy versions of brownies, doughnuts, cakes, tarts and biscuits by vendors such as Citizen Cacao; Combi; Ace Cookies and Milk; and Hunted + Gathered.

“There’s people doing some really interesting things in the raw, gluten-free and vegan realms,” says event co-organiser, Sarah Booth.

Not every item will be completely raw, gluten-free and vegan, but each vendor will tick at least one of these boxes with their baked creations.

“We don’t want to be strict, we want it to be open to a few different interpretations of different foods,” says Booth.

Wholey Day will become a regular feature on Flour Market’s calendar, running once every three months.

A gold-coin donation is required for entry.
