CBD wine bar Embla is finally opening Sundays.

“The plan for Embla was always for it to be somewhere you could casually drop by, not necessarily the fanciest restaurant in town. The vibe on Sunday is perfect, everyone’s had a couple of days off and is feeling relaxed”, says owner Christian McCabe.

Every week it will offer a $50 set lunch menu.

For the inaugural Sunday, this weekend on March 17, Embla’s bringing back its famous roast chicken. The dish has been requested often since it was given a rest from the menu late last year. Coming straight out of the wood-fired oven, this bird is so good it has reached cult status. The regular menu will also be available until close.

Special wine offerings will also be a feature. These may include something cheap and cheerful, or a rare and sought-after drop. The Embla staff has unearthed the latter to pair with the chook; a highly-coveted chardonnay from natural wine producer Jean Francois Ganevat.

In other news, the long-in-development upstairs dining room is still under construction. Expect to wait some time yet before the unveiling as McCabe and the team have plenty to keep them busy in the meantime.

“We’ve got some exciting projects coming up in London and Auckland soon. We feel it’s important not to rush into expanding the restaurant until we can fully commit.”

Good for them, bad for Melbourne’s tastebuds.
