Two of Crown’s best restaurants – acclaimed Japanese fine diner Nobu and sleek Thai restaurant Ging Thai – have launched “at-home” menus, available to pick up on Friday and Saturday nights.

Nobu, which started as a hangout for glamourous New Yorkers in 1994, before expanding globally and opening its Melbourne outpost in 2007, is offering a pared-back version of its world-famous menu for takeaway.

The at-home menu includes a number of cold dishes, such as Hiramasa yellowtail tuna sashimi with jalapeno; beef tataki with ponzu and garlic chips; ready-to-eat sashimi, sushi and nigiri; and salads. Hot dishes include black cod (soaked for days in a salty-sweet miso marinade developed by founding chef Nobu Matsuhisa); Wagyu tacos; sautéed seasonal vegetables with chilli-garlic sauce; and umami chicken wings. The dishes come with plating instructions and matching condiments.

For something more hands-on, Ging Thai has created a range of DIY meals kits with everything you need to recreate chef On Saengyojanr’s colourful curries and zesty salads in less than 15 minutes.

Options include Crying Tiger Beef salad made with kaffir lime leaf, sawtooth coriander,
chilli and banana blossom; Green Chicken Curry with apple eggplant, fresh basil and chillies; and Yellow Vegetable Curry with peppers, French beans, cabbage, baby corn and fried tofu. The salads and curries range from $15 to $24, and you can mop up your excess curry with a side of roti or jasmine rice.

To feel like you’re dining out while you’re dining in, both restaurants also have two cocktails: the Yasei No Hana (gin, Junmai sake, yuzu, vanilla and rose) and the Himawari (mango vodka, peach schnapps, passionfruit and vanilla). Plus, there’s sake, Piper-Heidsieck champagne, and a range of Australian wines.

Nobu and Ging Thai’s at-home menus launch on May 1. Place your order by phone on (03) 9292 5777 by 3pm on Fridays and Saturdays up to seven days in advance. Pick-up is from 5pm to 7pm on those days at the Crown Towers valet desk (access via Queensbridge Street).
