After opening last autumn, Hot-Listed West Melbourne wine bar and restaurant Earth Angels quickly became a favourite among the city’s creative class. Thanks largely to owners Sasha Chifura and Emmanuel John (better known by his DJ and producer name Skin on Skin), who focused on making it a multipurpose space hosting jazz nights, art exhibitions and collaborations with online food darlings such as Rahel Stephanie of @eatwithsp00ns.

The venue opened under chef Narit Kimsat (who departed in February), and was on our list of 2024’s best new bars. But on Saturday May 10, the team announced via an Instagram post that the venue will hold its final service on Saturday May 17.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we’re announcing the closure of Earth Angels. We didn’t expect this day to come so soon. As first-time operators, we knew there would be challenges and despite our best efforts, continuing has become unsustainable,” the post reads.

“We’ve learnt so much and made incredible friends and memories along the way … We’re so grateful for the love and support. If that were enough, we’d still be here.”

Earth Angels will close after service on Saturday May 17.
