Brothers Thomas and Nicholas Welch are opening an all-American taphouse on Chapel Street. Silverlake Social, slated to open in mid-October, will be dedicated to American food and beer. It takes over the site of Chinese restaurant Ging, which operated there for 50 years, and is around the corner from the Welchs’ other bar, White Oaks Saloon. Byron Barrowclough, former manager of Village Melbourne on St Kilda Road, is a partner.
Ten taps will pour beers including Stone Brewing and Sierra Nevada from California; Brooklyn Lager from New York; and beer from Deschutes Brewery in Oregon. There’ll also be 20 brews by the bottle.
Expect food to be along the lines of buffalo wings, burgers and steak. The venue will seat 75.
