Peer through the Brunswick Street windows into the dimly lit interior of Black Pearl and you’d be forgiven for underestimating what lies within. What looks like a cosy local, is indeed that, but also so much more. Amid these modest surrounds, a team of astute bartenders are carefully crafting some pretty great cocktails
Weeknights are laid back at Black Pearl – locals come in and out, a group might head in for a quiet pre-dinner cocktail. It’s weekends when this place really takes off, as people come in from all over town for a boutique beer (or three) and some of those killer cocktails. The list is well written, witty and encapsulates the love these guys have for their craft. The bar snacks are also something special; the sausage rolls are local legends. Upstairs at The Attic, things are a little more formal, but with the same Black Pearl wit.
For their Broadsheet Bar visit, the team have put together some tasty sounding treats. The Eleventh Hour Julep takes bourbon, orgeat syrup and pomegranate molasses and tops them off with Peychaud’s bitters and mint for a twist on the southern classic. The Dog’s Bollocks is a mishmash of pisco, fresh lemon juice, honey, crème de peche and orange bitters. Finally, the Bloomsbury Cooler sounds perfect for a hot, early autumn day, mixing Tanqueray No. 10 gin, elderflower cordial, maraschino liqueur and topping it off with a pineapple and coconut-infused green tea soda.
