Broadsheet ’s inaugural winter food festival Dine Out kicked off in Melbourne on Monday August 4 with citywide specials and one-night-only dinners at Bistra, Maha and Carlton Wine Room.
On opening night, Hot-Listed Carlton restaurant Bistra was transformed into a modern Hungarian bistro thanks to the team at Hot-Listed Sydney restaurant Corner 75, an institution recently taken over by the teams behind two beloved Sydney spots – Sixpenny and Baba’s Place.
Corner 75 head chef Carley Scheidegger and co-owners Alice Tremayne and Dan Puskas flew down for the epic collab. Highlights included Corner 75’s signature pork schnitzels and langos (deep-fried Hungarian flatbread) with sour cream and chives on the side, as well as rich and comforting matzo ball soup and Scheidegger’s apple strudel, made with house-made filo pastry and served with a dollop of sweetened cream on the side. To top things off, the Bistra team curated a selection of Eastern European wines.
