Richmond burger joint Benny Burger, which was founded by celebrity chef and Vue de Monde co-owner Shannon Bennett, closed its doors for the last time on Saturday May 19.

Benny Burger – part of the Vue Group that Bennett sold a majority share of in 2016 – served ethically produced burgers made with organic products from Australian farms, but has closed after almost two years of operation, citing issues with the Richmond location.

In a statement provided to Broadsheet, Vue Group representative says the venue closed due to difficulties with the site that did not align with its long-term vision for the brand.

The venue was developed over three years before opening in Melbourne in June 2017, serving classic beef burgers and monthly mystery burgers on tables made from restored Pac-Man machines.

A Benny Burger still operates at 430 Little Collins Street, Melbourne. It will not be affected by the Richmond closure.
