Headed up by former Market Lane baristas Hannah Alderton and Jarrod Pageot, Altius Coffee Brewers is already starting on the front foot.

Echoes of Market Lane filter through, from the design (with help from designer Sarah Trotter of Hearth Studio), to the coffee, roasted by Market Lane, of course. Alderton and Pageot have added their own touches, though. The fit-out is warmer, cocooned in maroon tiling. The approach to coffee is more laid back, too.

“We don't want to be intimidating,” Alderton says, “We want people to come in and say, ‘this is the best coffee I've ever had’.

“But we don't care if that coffee is a latte with three sugars," Pageot adds. There will also be soy milk on offer.
The pair is keeping things simple with the food, offering just cakes and sweets from Little Bertha.

Altius is the first of a series of stores set to open next door to The Grain Store over the coming months. The Archway, as the development will be known, will house a number specialty restaurants and cafes, including 5 & Dime Bagels’ first flagship store and T by Luxbite.
And if you’re wondering about the name, Altius is Latin for altitude, a nod to coffee’s ideal growing conditions – above 900 metres.
