8bit Burger is launching a new pop-up store at the end of the month. A few doors down from Chin Chin, the site was previously home to Deli 101.
The pop-up will last until the end of the year.
With no big plans for a third permanent store yet, this experimental pop-up is an opportunity to try something different. Chef and co-owner Shayne McCallum wants to trial new burgers and new equipment, which are harder to play around with in the already-established venues.

8bit Bonus Round has an almost entirely different menu than its Swanston Street and Footscray counterparts. It has four new burgers and one popular special making a comeback.
“The Zelda burger gets the most requests to come back,” says McCallum. It consists of a chickpea, corn and quinoa patty, American cheese, grilled haloumi, avocado, beetroot relish, lettuce and 8bit mayo. It’s not available at any other stores, and it comes in vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free versions, too.
There’s also a spicy-beef burger called Streets of Rage, which comes with hot fried chicken; bacon; pickled habaneros; hot sauce; American cheese; and chipotle-and-cayenne mayo.
Another addition to the menu is the Joe & Mac burger, with fried mac‘n’cheese.
You can also get milkshakes and sides, which include waffle fries and chicken asteroids (think popcorn chicken). You can add cheese and bacon, or chilli and cheese, to these sides.
