Between Torquay and Anglesea, the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery is the second venture by chocolatiers, Leanne and Ian Neeland, who founded their first chocolaterie in Yarra Valley in 2012.

The original chocolaterie is known for three popular festivals including the Yarra Valley Hot Chocolate, Ice Cream and Rocky Road Festivals.

An hour’s drive from Melbourne, the new chocolaterie sits on 15 acres of verdant coastline and features an outdoor ice-creamery, a 300-seat cafe built to resemble a cocoa pod and a fruit-and-nut orchard. A fragrant lavender maze is currently under construction, too.

Landscape impressions by local artist Pat McKenzie and artwork by Indigenous artist Nathan Patterson, among others, can be found on gourmet chocolate wrappers.

Six chocolatiers from Belgium and France lead the team, handcrafting 250 kinds of chocolate. The Great Ocean Road’s range will extend to chocolate bars, nut clusters, chocolate spreads and a chocolate-therapy beauty line.

The outdoor ice creamery has 24 flavours of ice-cream and sorbets that rotate through seasonal recipes.

Leanne says new and original festivals are on the horizon, too.
