The Melbourne hospitality scene is always in flux. Here are the new venues we got excited about this month, and the ones we were sad to see go.
Openings and new coverage
• First look: with $6 pasta and $6 punch, Times New Roman is almost too good to be true.
• Solace is a club’s club in Chinatown.
• Brighton was hanging out for a restaurant like Henrys.
• Brighton’s sea change continues with Ian Curley’s 81 Bay wine bar.
• First look: Ramen Ako’s makes no more than 100 serves per day.
• Crack into two-kilo “crabzillas” at Ministry of Crab ’s new permanent home.
• First look: Filipino pop-up Palay moves to Fitzroy for good.
• First look: Thai Chinese restaurant Yaowarat is open until midnight every day.
• Luther’s Scoops opens its north-side production kitchen to the public.
• First look: Korean cafe Bottari brings peach tea espresso and twisted doughnuts to Elizabeth Street.
Closures
• Nornie Bero’s Mabu Mabu has entered liquidation.
• It seems like this is curtains for Fitzroy North’s Pinotta.
