Sugar highs are cool and all, but if you really want to make the most of Sugar Mountain 2018 you’d do well to attempt a balanced diet. To help you avoid spending too long staring at the menu instead of raging out to more than 30 artists, the Sugar Mountain team has released its food line-up for the festival.

Taking care of business this year is Welcome to Thornbury, the north side’s go-to food-truck park. It’s teaming with festival organisers to create Welcome to Sugar Mountain (see what they did there).

“We have been searching for a way to incorporate Welcome To Thornbury because they perfectly encapsulate a fun, food and drink driven environment. The collaboration at Sugar Mountain will allow us to create the perfect festival food and cocktail offering and we are super excited to see it all come together,” says festival co-founder Brett Louis.

Trucks rolling into the festival include Sparrow’s Philly Cheesesteaks and Mr Burger.

Fancy fish and chips will come out of the Twisted Fisherman fryer. These guys tempura-batter their fish, and the chips are cut by hand. Go for the lobster roll if you really want to show off.

Watch out for sauce in the eye from flailing strands of spaghetti near the Pasta Face Food Truck. Wrap Roll will be slinging banh Mis and The Greek Trojan Yiros crew will be rolling up lamb, chicken and grilled-haloumi souvlakis.

If barbeque’s your thing, Copa Food Truck will be cooking steak, chicken and sausage over coals in a traditional churrascaria oven.

If on the day all you really want is sweets, hang out by the Messina “Lowdown” van.

For now, Sugar Mountain has done away with its Sensory Restaurant, an avant-garde experimental dining experience.

“Sugar Mountain has been presented with an exciting opportunity to create the Sensory restaurant outside of the festival footprint for a longer-standing pop-up. Stay tuned for more details on this,” say the festival’s organisers.

A couple of special drinks offerings are along for the ride, too. Globetrotting, sustainable tiki bar Trash Tiki will be in Melbourne for the first time. They’ll bang out tropical cocktails using organic food waste from local restaurants, kitchens and bars. If grapes are more your thing, Soulfor Wine organisers Gus Carmichael and Campbell Burton will be running the Natty Bar, where all the wine being poured is free of sulphides and pesticides. It’s funky, weird and sometimes orange.

The single-day music and arts festival is a place where creativity in the form of music, visual and interactive art can flourish – its home at the Victorian College of the Arts makes perfect sense.

This year's music line-up is a belter and includes Cut Copy, Joey Bada$$ and Gerd Janson all set to work up a hunger in attendees. Also be sure to check out Via Alice, a 360-degree dance and virtual-reality odyssey through Australia.
