Features
Mr Simple started life in 2003 as The Lab Store – a regular clothing shop stocking a range of menswear brands. After a while, the owners noticed how hard it was to source clothes without prominent logos or other branding.
Mr Simple’s first in-house T-shirts and chinos arrived in 2007. Since then the brand’s anonymous style has taken it far beyond the original location on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. Now there are shops in Brisbane, Sydney and New Zealand, though Melbourne still has the lion’s share.
Each store’s slatted timber facade speaks of the brand’s understated, minimalist ethos. Step inside to find a range of basic tees, chinos and shorts. These garments are balanced with brighter statement pieces.
There’s also a solid selection of accessories, such as Herschel Supply Co. backpacks, and watches from Casio and Simple Watch Co.
Excluding formalwear, you can pretty much find an entire wardrobe here, including add-ons such as hair pomade. Not bad, considering the modest size of the shops.
