Now the brothers behind Billy Van Creamy gelato have opened another summer pop-up, this time on Gertrude Street. It's next door to Belle's Hot Chicken, in the space once occupied by Bar Clarine.
Step inside for BVC’s take on cookies and cream – ice-cream sandwiches made with Butterbing Cookies. Then there's new, seasonal sorbet flavours such as plum, peach and lemon, as well as Billy Van Creamy classics such as vanilla bean, chocolate, salted caramel and the in-house favourite, choc mint.
The pop-up store has eight flavours each day, which rotate between the 12 on offer at the Fitzroy North base. It's also doing affogattos, iced coffees and iced chocolates.
Billy Van Creamy uses 100 per cent organic products, biodynamic milk and raw organic sugar in its gelato. Seasonal fruits are used to make the sorbet.
Melbourne artist Esther Olsson painted the giant ice-cream cone on the front window, and her mural inside the store is a shower of pink and blue ice-creams.
Billy Van Creamy Fitzroy is open until May 2017.
