The 40th Governor of Louisiana, Huey P. Long, was known and adored for many reasons. And he loved a Ramos Gin Fizz (when he travelled around America he used to take his own bartender because he didn’t trust anyone else to make his Fizzes). He is a man, according to Gumbo Kitchen food truck and Po’ Boy Quarter founder, Michael Cotter, worthy of naming a bar after.
You’ll find the gin-based cocktail with raw egg whites and fresh citrus juice on Huey Long’s concise cocktail list of select classics, along with Cotter’s personal favourite, the Sazerac. In keeping with the American price policy implemented out front, don’t expect to pay more than $15 for a cocktail, with Po’ Boy’s full menu (freshly shucked oysters, mesquite-smoked pulled pork, Cajun-spiced fried chicken, gumbo, po' boys and more) available.
Minimalist and classy, the dark, burnt-timber walls – hand scorched with a butane torch – are offset with contrasting painted bricks. The Huey Long’s neon sign reflects off their silvery-white. Gather a group and make your way through the dedicated New Orleans cocktail list at the communal table, or pull up a stool and get your Fizz on listening to some live Louisiana-style music.
