This Brunswick Street site was once a fish-and-chip shop. Now, Aphro & Wolfe is a cosy cafe that prides itself on toasties and coffee. It’s going for the warm, lo-fi feel of Melbourne cafes past, fitted with rich plywood and antiques from around the city.
The toasties are big. There’s a Latina (six-hour slow-cooked pulled pork); a three-cheese; and a spanakopita-esque Greek style version. The best, though, is Aphro’s twist on a classic Reuben.
The menu is rounded out by salads, chips, muesli, a selection of sweets and coffee by Padre.
