Tucked away in a discrete laneway, the iconic Georgian premises of Von Haus takes on a different guise, transforming into a multipurpose art space during Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. The event is the result of a collaboration between two of the building’s other tenants – Denise Sprynskyj of Melbourne label S!X and the ladies behind Milly Sleeping – and runs alongside an exhibition at gallery Sarah Scout.
In the maid’s room of Von Haus, S!X is launching its Spring/Summer collection and Milly Sleeping is presenting a collection of divine jewellery made by local designers, including Allys Ellen, Alexi Freeman, Anna Varendorff, Deirdre Hoban, Jasmina Krupic, Maripossa and MüCKE.
Meanwhile, another of the building’s tenants, gallery Sarah Scout, is showing I Would Breathe Water, a guest-curated group exhibition featuring works by local and international artists including curator Kit Wise, Rosslynd Piggott, Lily Hibberd, Siri Hayes and Jordan Baseman (UK). The artworks explore the medium and politics of water via digital prints, photography, sculpture, film, text and spoken word. Audiences are invited to reflect on the luxuries and dire ecological crisis associated with the planet’s primary material.
