For a decade now, Monk House Design’s pint-sized store in Brunswick East has housed the best of independent Australian fashion. This week, the shop welcomes its own in-house label, a tight, five-piece collection of basics to fill the gaps between statement pieces of the season.
“The Monk House team wanted to make simple, high-quality pieces that can be worn with other exciting pieces in the store,” says salesperson and art director on the collection’s lookbook, Nat Turnbull. “We’ve designed it so that the pants complement a Dress Up top, or a Kloke piece, for example.”
Some of you may recall Monk House clothing before owner Roula Tzidras turned her focus to curating labels for the forward-thinking store. But it’s a sweet return to design for Tzidras and her team with the launch of Daze, the first of Monk House’s new seasonal in-house collections.
Daze is made of wardrobe building blocks: a pair of pants, an a-line skirt, a cotton top, a dress and shorts, all of which come in indigo, teal, pale blue, white, and black. It’s all made locally from Japanese fabrics and prices range from $120 to $280.
