Following overwhelming success in jewellery design, Australian label ManiaMania's Tamila Purvis and Melanie Kamsler’s next move has been in the works for a while now. A capsule collection of lifestyle items and accessories has arrived, entitled Curiosities.

“We both curate our spaces in a very similar style to how we adorn the body with jewellery,” says Kamsler. “Both of us are passionate collectors of unique objects for our homes, so we already had so many ideas for these kinds of things since we started the brand.”

The continuity between ManiaMania's accessory design and this new collection is seamless. The lifestyle range includes keyrings, tote bags and candles, all infused with the essence of ManiaMania's unique style, incorporating surrealism, drama and the symbiosis between elements of the natural and the mystical.

The Black Dahlia candle is made from black wax in a hand-carved, gothic casing featuring palm fronds and serpents, recalling the design of the brand’s famous Immortals ring. Crystals – a favourite motif of the pair – are cast as oversized, dramatic book ends, and are also the inspiration behind the collection’s three soaps. Modelled off some of Purvis and Kamsler’s favourite crystals – “We wanted to present their beauty in a new way,” says Kamsler – the soaps come in peach and two unscented varieties that take the very realistic shape of smoky quartz or apophylite.

When searching for inspiration for Curiosities, or just to add to her own personal collection, Kamsler turns to her local favourites in Sydney such as Mitchell Road Antiques, Sydney Antique Centre and Dust in Darlinghurst. “There’s an antique fair in New York twice a year that is an absolute mecca of pieces from all different eras,” she says, “I get totally lost and overwhelmed by the end of it.” ManiaMania is looking to expand their lifestyle offering in the new year, which leaves us plenty of time to get acquainted with the peculiar and eccentric world of their new Curiosities range.
