Australian fashion designer Dion Lee can do no wrong and his latest Line II collection is a case in point. The diffusion line that showed at this year’s MBFWA, to enthusiastic nods of approval and a giant industry thumbs up, is dropping in stores this week.

As well as opening his flagship store earlier this year, Lee was designing Line II’s SS14 collection. “Normcore” or not, there’s no denying that dressing down is more popular than ever and Lee’s effortlessly cool offering is testament to that fact.

The collection stays true to Lee’s modern, architectural style with its restrained use of dramatic shapes and clean lines. A youthful energy brings freshness to the range of perfectly conceived minimal garments. The Line II girl is laid-back in slouchy trousers with ’90s style jackets and shirts folded like origami around her waist. Beyoncé’s Flawless is playing in her head as she throws a bomber jacket nonchalantly over a long silky skirt.

Lee’s designs maximise negative space with cut-out details, slit-back suit jackets and billowing, backless shirts. Sporty stripes run down pants and around shirt sleeves adding a tough, athletic edge. This is offset by paper-delicate slips and bold, painterly dresses in blues, bright tangerine, black and white. The collection is rounded out with crisp button-up shirts, denim and leather staples.

The collection is now available in store and online.
