Any brand that chooses a store location by its proximity to good coffee sits pretty close to our heart. It was with this, along with her grandfather’s former residence in the same street, in mind that Leonard St designer Amanda McCarthy chose Flinders Lane as the site for her third Melbourne store.
The space, in Carlow House, may be small but the high ceilings and elegant feel fit perfectly with the laidback retro style of the label and enables the staple knits, bright jackets, vintage eyewear and newly introduced handmade leather satchels to shine. In the coming weeks the spring/summer 2011 collection will make its way into the new shop, with a focus on trans-seasonal layering and clashing prints.
The look is distinctly retro, with printed silks, crocheted shifts and jumpsuits. The oversized tees with a (distinctly Prada-esque) sparrow print and on-trend khaki shorts keep the look modern. For the classicist there are little black (and white) dresses, just above-the-knee rah-rah skirts and jackets in timeless shapes. The footwear brings the whole look together with a modern twist on platforms, leather sandals, ankle boots and brogues.
