Beloved Melbourne label Gorman has further embraced the digital age by redesigning its website and creating a welcoming space for customers to shop online. Lisa Gorman’s striking designs are now available at the click of a button, with her new spring/summer collection capturing fantasies of endlessly balmy days.
Gorman renders an evocative picture of her inspiration for the current collection, describing a tropical paradise where the good times just keep on rolling. “Gorman girl is playing backgammon with Carmen Miranda and a pair of cheetahs, sipping a Pimm’s cup, as a glorious sunset paints the sky pink and red,” she says.
The modern-vintage vibe embraces frivolity through bursts of vivid colour and playful prints. Crisply tailored pieces reference the silhouettes of the 1950s and 60s, while boxy 80s shapes offer a timeless elegance. Embellishments such as a flocked velvet burnout print update exotic luxury with unique flair.
Full skirted styles, miniskirts, bold blazers and leggy trousers unite in a range that moves from a civilised brunch to an evening cocktail soiree, with many sunlit hours in between. Fabrics such as silk crepe de chine and linen contribute to the clean, striking effect of garments designed to prosper in the warmer months.
“The intention was to make the collection feel like one long summer holiday,” says Gorman. “An ideal world where you didn’t actually have to go back to work after two weeks and wait for another year before you could go again.”
