On Sunday evening, nervous friends and family piled into the Melbourne Town Hall to cheer on the latest crop of budding designers from around the state for the annual Melbourne Spring Fashion Week event. Both runway shows pushed cheerfully ahead through the occasional lighting and music mishap, and shutters went off in all corners as photographers captured collections from RMIT, Holmesglen Institute, Kangan Institute, Box Hill Institute, FashionMasters and Whitehouse Institute – as well as the odd celebrity spotting.

As models strode up the runway to electronic music and thudding bass, and factions in the crowd cheered on their favourites, the overwhelming feeling was of a fashion community out in force.
