For Sydney designer Celeste Tesoriero, including a loungewear range fell into a place. It’s a reflection of her lifestyle; spent travelling between Australia and Bali, and swapping traffic and blazers for morning swims and kimonos.
When designing her womenswear collections, Tesoriero values comfort and quality above all else. “The loungewear is an extension of the label’s backbone ideal of slow fashion, and a true reflection of my personal taste,” says the designer. “I have a sort of unofficial uniform now of a relaxed, matching shirt and pants from my recent AW15 collection. It borders on a pyjama-set, and I’ve practically been living in it.”
Having comfortable and versatile items of clothing that are well made and easy to wear has become Tesoriero’s driving force since she launched her self-titled label in 2012. Known for her love of Japanese-style tailoring and pantsuits, the loungewear pieces embody these elements but in loose-fitting, lightweight fabrics.
In earthy colour ways and using natural fibres, the range consists of delicate silk playsuits and woven linen pyjamas and robes. The loungewear will be available online, with the option for personalised name embroidery on the interior or exterior of all pieces. Her approach to the collection is as relaxed as the garments themselves; Tesoriero plans to add individual pieces to the range as she develops them.
“If you find pieces that are classic, good quality and make you feel confident, you shouldn’t feel the need to constantly keep replacing them with new items.” she tells us, “My hope is that when the garments have worn deliciously thin due to years of wear and tear, you can open your wardrobe and think – I don’t need anything else. I have everything I need.”
