Homegrown label Willow is adding a denim line to their range. Unlike big-name brands ACNE, Ksubi and Sass and Bide, whose humble beginnings all began with creating covetable jeans, Willow is delving into denim territory having already enjoyed success in the international market for their womenswear, easily recognisable for their silk draping and soft, feminine silhouettes.
While straying into new, more casual territory with the traditionally working-class fabric, the new line stays true to the design ethos of the brand with its feminine styles – there are fitted jackets with peplums, slim boot-cut jeans and pencil skirts. While other brands are still happy exploring the early ‘90s, Willow is more interested what the later years of the decade had to offer – note low-rise jeans and contrast seams.
“What sets the range apart from other denim lines is it how it toes the line between feminine and masculine,” says designer Kit Willow. She admits that her wardrobe is not overflowing with denim. “It has to be right,” she says, “quality not quantity – that's my motto.” Willow hopes the more affordable range will give new customers the opportunity to enjoy the label.
