Made-to-measure suiting is a growing trend amid the Melbourne menswear movement, yet is often considered a luxury experience. Enter Suit Shop, a new player in Australian tailoring, bringing quality to the previously exclusive custom suiting market at a more accessible price.
A spin-off of the illustrious P.Johnson Tailors by Patrick Johnson, Suit Shop has established a workshop in China for their production and the tailors there have each been taken through a rigorous training program to ensure the quality of garment you’d expect for a much higher price. As Suit Shop’s Melbourne tailor Matthew Newman explains, “Until now, there really haven’t been any great suiting options for Australian men who want to dress better at the sub-$1000 price point.’’
The service, which launched two weeks ago in Melbourne, works much like it does at P.Johnson. Following an initial consultation with your tailor, cloth selection and fitting, the suit is created for you in four weeks and hand delivered for your final fitting, with the price range starting from $750.There’s no messing around with these guys and all alternations are recorded on a unique pattern tailor-made for your shape, which simplifies the process for subsequent suits.
