Last year over 1000 people walked through Penthouse Mouse’s gallery space to view bicycles parked on the ceiling, precious accessories encased in glass boxes and garments dangling on ropes and wires like circus performers.

As one of L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s most popular events, Penthouse Mouse gives up-and-coming designers the chance to showcase their works in unexpected ways. The highly anticipated event is now set to return for its fifth year, promising a pop-up space of innovative installations and insightful concepts by some of Australia’s most exciting designers.

The brainchild of Moth Design, a collective of young Melbourne designers who specialise in retail fit-outs and events, Penthouse Mouse will transform Shed 4 at North Wharf Road, Docklands into a visual wonderland that marries the conceptual fashion retail space with artworks, parties, live photo shoots and collaborations. Local labels set to take part in 2011’s event will include Leonard Street, Trimapee, Thom Finch, Alexi Freeman, Upper Left Arm, Above and many more.

“During L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival there is a lot of excitement in Melbourne about local labels and their new collections. But not everyone can get to the parades so it's great for them to be able to pop down to Penthouse Mouse to see a uniquely curated and displayed range of Australian fashion,” explains Nathan Price, one half of design duo Limedrop, who will also be taking part in this year’s event.

More than being just an innovative showroom, Penthouse Mouse allows visitors to peruse and purchase displayed designs while also enjoying a beer from the Coopers 62 pop-up bar and an espresso cocktail or latte by the Lavazza Cafe. A shopping experience we’re sure many of us could get used to.
