It’s not unusual for fashion and art to walk hand in hand, which is why this year the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week has created a new way for fashion devotees to experience both.

As part of the official program for the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week Emerging Designer Series, the Parallel Tensions exhibition showcases a selection of works from some highly anticipated young designers at an independent art gallery, fortyfivedownstars.

You can expect to see a collection of wearable works presented in various installations, alongside digital and visual presentations. From fierce leather and spiky wares to feminine spring prints and eccentric accessories, the exhibition is a sensory feast.

Curated by Moth Design and stylist Connel Chiang, the exhibition brings fashion off the runway and gives the audience an opportunity to examine the intricate handmade works in a unique and intimate context.

Be ready to be awed by the exquisite works of Christina Exie, Francis Leon, Jason Hewitt, J.K. Kirk, Melanie Bower, Oracles, Raggatt and Tettmann.Doust.

Parallel Tensions shows at fortyfivedownstairs, 45 Flinders Lane, until September 8. Free entry.
