Elka Collective first launched online in 2015 and is by designer Courtney Price, whose pieces combine natural fibres with different textures to create beautifully constructed, timeless garments for women. In 2017, Elka was bought by Brand Collective – which also owns Mossimo, Superdry and others – and Price transitioned to a freelance creative consultant role.

Elka’s core collection is all about trans-seasonal basics; there’s a lot of linen and leather, but with cooler months ahead the label has brought in new designer Emma Cherry to add leather jackets and skirts, heavy oversized wool coats, super soft merino knits, linen blazers, and effortless silk dresses to the range.

“It’s always been a dream of ours to have a concept store,” says Price of the new Windsor space. “It was a natural progression and the missing part of our story to date.”

It’s easy to while away time sifting through these pieces, but the store also stocks vitamins from Bear, sunglasses from Velvet Canyon, jewellery from Brie Leon, James Smith footwear and more. The shop occupies the former site of Windsor Annex, which stocked men’s and women’s casualwear from around the world, including Elka.

“Windsor is close to our hearts,” Price says, adding that it was a no-brainer to the team to open the Elka store there.

Rich coffee-brown timber, tall rounded archways and touches of sandstone lend a bit of a Spanish or Italian resort feel to Elka Collective’s first flagship store, and whitewashed lime-render walls, natural marble surfaces, reclaimed terracotta tiles and blond timber floorboards create an earthy canvas for the label’s luxurious garments.

The corner shop was fitted out by interior architect Chris Aplin. There’s an emphasis on fittings and fixtures from local makers, such as sculptural pendant lights by industrial designer Coco Reynolds, and a geometric chandelier by furniture and lighting designer Ross Gardam.
