Having already lent her name to the womenswear, jewellery, homeware, paint and footwear collections she creates, Karen Walker has plenty of notches on her belt as a designer. She’s set to wear yet another hat this season as she releases a new childrenswear range.

Titled KW2 and created in collaboration with Japan’s Uniqlo, the 18-piece range translates Karen Walker’s brand of quirky-cool for kids. But the catalyst behind this collection was in fact a collaboration a little closer to home.

“We drew inspiration from the look of Karen Walker collections and, with a little help from my five-year-old Valentina, we picked out some of our beloved signature styles,” explains Walker.

Well known for her classic geek-chic aesthetic, Walker also drew inspiration from the extraordinary talents of child geniuses, with prints featuring her signature alphabet, as well as biro-etched floral doodles on gridded graph paper. Bookish frills and cultivated bows help complete the looks.

With Uniqlo rumoured to be hitting Australian soil soon, the collection will be available in April at a range of stockists yet to be disclosed. And so as not to be outdone by your kids, Walker has also created a range of women’s T-shirts for Uniqlo that sit alongside the kids’ styles.
