First Look: 14-Year-Old Albert Park Fashion Boutique Filly’s Stable Has a Chic New Look (and a New Name)
Top Albert Park fashion destination Filly’s Stable has dropped the “Filly’s”, rebranded as Stable and undergone a bold but approachable refurb. “It’s a bit more relaxed,” founder Lauren Nicholls tells Broadsheet. “[Customers] can shop and play with the jewellery in a non-precious environment.”
Nicholls opened the clothing and accessories boutique in 2008 while still working as an international fashion buyer, which she’s done for two decades.
The shiny new fit-out was guided by Fitzroy North-based interior-design firm Studio Manifold, which transformed the Bridport Street space. The open-plan studio now has gold finishes, baby blue walls, and vibrant pieces by local and European designers.
You might find eclectic dresses by Spanish slow-fashion label Celia B, elegant staple pieces from luxury brand Self Portrait, or vintage-inspired collections by Rixo London. Footwear by British label JW Anderson has also proved popular.
You’ll also be able to shop Nicholls’s own label, On Parks – or OP. The fabrics are predominately sourced from Italy and Japan, and the pieces are made with subtle details and patterns, shooting for a style Nicholls describes as “humbly fabulous”.
And, of course, a central focus of the store is its carefully curated jewellery collection, in a statement raw-metal cabinet. Nicholls says it’s filled with both high-end and “price-pointed” pieces. “I wanted to make sure anyone could walk into this beautiful store … and walk out with [something] no matter what,” she says, leaning into the advantages of shopping IRL. “It’s a romantic experience and [the pieces] should be enjoyed, talked about, tried on and thought about – rather than just a quick click online.”
Meanwhile, across the road, the space that Stable operated out of during the renovation is now being used as an innovative showroom, with pop-ups, brand collaborations and curated design collections all on the cards for the near future.
