Australian designer Therese Rawsthorne’s new line, T.R. Ensemble, is a collection of denim and casual separates in her signature nonchalant elegance. The line takes its name from the literal meaning of an ensemble: something created from a number of individual parts put together deliberately. “I think a lot about what the essential, core components of a modern wardrobe are every time I start a new collection and I was really intent on capturing the spirit of the Therese Rawsthorne woman, very cool and understated and with a strong eye for detail,” she says.

Rawsthorne has steered clear of distressed and shredded denim, opting instead for timeless clean lines in the perfect blue-black as well as muted pastels and nudes. The pared back collection features three cuts of jeans (slim, flare and easy-fit), alongside washed cotton shirts and t shirts in shell pink, black, blueberry and white, all perfectly cut with meticulous attention to detail. “I wanted to create a range that would allow me to focus on easy, wearable pieces that you can knock about in everyday,” says Rawsthorne. As with the Therese Rawsthorne line, natural fibres altered by inimitable washes are key here. The focus is on the beauty of the fabric without interference by fussy prints or designs.

T.R. Ensemble is extremely wearable, versatile and affordable. “I’m especially excited to make denim for the first time, I wear so much myself it makes perfect sense,” explains Rawsthorne.

T.R. Ensemble will be available at RPM in Carlton and Salt in Brighton, as well as online stores Frockshop and The Dreamery from January 2011.
