What do you get when you cross Mambo’s ‘90s trademark surf designs with the Emma Mulholland aesthetic? Blue lobsters, angelfish and technicolour swimwear.

“I looked back to Mambo’s earlier prints and styles and used techniques like lino printing and tie-dye to achieve a look nostalgic to the Mambo prints that I was in love with growing up,” says Mulholland.

A South Coast girl at heart, the Emma Mulholland x Mambo Goddess collection is an ode to Australian beach culture. Made up of just swim and active wear, the collection features a range of brain coral and sea creature-printed zip-up swimsuits and signature Mulholland bombers.

The collection will be stocked at MYER stores nationwide and online at ASOS.com this week.

“I was inspired by the Great Barrier Reef, I've always really wanted to go there but haven't yet, so I had to rely on books and the internet to help me out. I wanted to do things unique to Australia, so I thought that would be a good place to start,” says Mulholland.

The collection is made with lightweight fabrics, lycra and white cotton. As far as the cozzies go, the cuts are high and the pieces versatile. The mix-and-match swimwear is inspired by the sharp clean lines and unexpected colour combinations that underpin ‘80s Memphis design.

“Inspiration from Elle Macpherson in Sports Illustrated featured a lot on the mood boards,” says Mulholland.

While the collaboration will be shown as a part of Fashion Palette at New York Fashion Week, these pieces are attainable (that is, if they don’t sell out in a flash like previous Mulholland collections). The affordable collection is retailing from $39.95 to $149.95.
