A few weeks ago we put up some lookbook shots from the new Ellery collection Tenenbaums in the Tuileries. Just released are the campaign images featuring Texan beauty Ashley Smith, shot by Paul Empson.
Marrying Marie Antoinette’s decadence with the sporty sensibilities of The Royal Tenenbaum children, Tenenbaums in the Tuileries embodies the best of both worlds. Luxurious fabrics, such as those used in the silk tulle ruffles are offset with classic, clean lines and slouchy sweaters. Silhouettes are elegant and dramatic, with full skirts and strong, armour-like bodies. Meanwhile, carefully constructed drapes and soft, slouchy knits gives the collection a touch of softness.
The colours are mostly subdued throughout, drawing on pastels such as the hazy pinks, muted barley and metallic greys featured in sequences in the film. That is until dramatic splashes of revolutionary red provide an unexpected burst of warmth.
Every single piece has a life of its own; the Macaroon Pink Pod Coat is reminiscent of Margot’s dilemma of growing up too fast and being stuck in a perpetual childhood, while Chas’s tracksuit getup gets an update in the sporty ankle rib slouch pant paired with a Cordeliers double-collar coat with leather trim.
By mixing the classic with the contemporary, the collection embodies designer Kim Ellery’s penchant for juxtaposition, with a sense of humour.
The release of this campaign marks the launch of their new website elleryland.com.
