Lovers of minimalist style will be happy to hear that cult Japanese brand Muji is opening a huge new concept store at Chadstone Shopping Centre this August. And at 1700 square metres, it’ll be the biggest Australian store yet.
The retailer first opened its doors in Australia in 2013, and has sparked joy with its practical, environmentally friendly and aesthetically-pleasing products.
The new store will feature all of Muji’s well-loved minimalist clothing, travel goods, skincare, stationery and bedding. The extra space will be used to introduce a new range of furniture available in Australia for the first time, as well as Muji Labo, a capsule range of simple, beautiful basics designed for the minimalist wardrobe that earlier this year released a genderless line.
The bigger location will also be host to a range of services that go beyond your average shopping experience. Open Muji will provide workshops and interactive experiences for kids and adults, such as tote-bag-decorating classes, talks by local artists and more. Muji Books, stocking books on everything from cooking to travel to pattern-making, has the potential to swallow up an afternoon, as does a new self-serve coffee bar.
There’ll also be an in-store embroidery service, and one corner of the store will be dedicated to Melbourne to Go, featuring Muji-curated suggestions of things to do in Melbourne.
Muji’s current Chadstone outpost will close to make way for the new store, which is due to open at the end of August.
