After huge success online, APOM have opened their very first bricks and mortar store. Designers and friends, Kate Brook and Kajsa Kvernmo are now the owners of a clean, light-filled and minimalist space on Carlisle Street, Balaclava.
APOM (A Part of Me), is becoming known for its animal-patterned collared shirts and dresses, fly-print skirts and lime-green jumpsuits. Kvernmo wasn’t wrong when she said, “We don’t want to be mainstream,” but it should be noted that quality and quirkiness comes with a price tag.
Being online only has meant Brook and Kvernmo were never quite sure who they were dressing, but since opening the physical space, Kvernmo says she’s been surprised by the clientele who have been frequenting their store. She hadn’t considered that their collared, unique print shirts might appeal to the corporate high-flyer looking to shake up her workwear repertoire, but along with the appeal of seeing customers try on and delight in their products, these surprises have been early highlights of the move.
