XTYO is the first commercial exhibition from young Melbourne artist Caleb Shea. With heavy influences of form, line and phenomenology (the experience of building materials and their sensory properties), XTYO explores the aesthetics of geometry.
Shea’s works, already displayed in the Joyce Nissan Collection and various private collections in Australia, is the newest addition to Utopian Slumps’ thirteen early to mid career stable of artists. Sculptures formed from industrial materials – steel, concrete and bluestone make up the central installation in Utopian Slumps' gallery space. Shea’s neo-formalist pieces create a modern homage to the romance of the shape.
