The Regent Theatre
191 Collins Street, Melbourne
Take a trip to the magical land of Oz when one of the world’s most popular musicals returns to Melbourne in 2024.

It’s time to try defying gravity: beloved Broadway musical Wicked, a retelling of The Wizard of Oz, is headed to Melbourne in March 2024.

You might already be familiar with Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion, but the musical goes back even further, telling the story of Elphaba (the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda the Good Witch – their rivalry, friendship and how they changed each other for good.

Courtney Monsma (2012's Dorothy) plays Glinda, the bubbly popular girl who becomes Glinda the Good, while Sheridan Adams (Tick, Tick... Boom!, Cruel Intentions) plays Elphaba, the girl born with emerald-green skin who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.

Wicked was last performed in Australia more than a decade ago, premiering in Melbourne in 2008 before opening in Sydney the following year. The musical is based on the novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire, which is in turn inspired by L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the Judy Garland-starring film from 1939.

Since premiering, Wicked has won more than 100 major awards and been performed in 16 countries, including Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Brazil, Germany and the UK. It’s now the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history, right behind The Lion King.
