Whisky, Wine & Fire
If the chilly weather has sent you into hibernation, this celebration of whisky, wine and fire could be enough incentive to brave the cold.
For four nights in July, Caulfield Racecourse will be home to a clutch of top-shelf whisky distillers, notable chefs and fire installations.
Pastuso and Farmer’s Daughters chef Alejandro Saravia will cook a whole steer over charcoals and knock out whisky-cured pastrami jaffles. Charlie Carrington from Atlas Dining will be serving his take on South American comfort food, including a dish of smoked ham hock, salmon wing and shrimp “gritz”. Tokyo Tina will be turning up the heat on the grill for serves of yakitori skewers. And Glacé’s Christy Tania and Milk the Cow will handle cheese and dessert.
Distilleries holding whisky tastings include Timboon, Chief’s Son, Starward Whisky and Belgrove, alongside major brands like Makers Mark, Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, Woodford Reserve and Laphroaig. Wineries include Tahbilk, Innocent Bystander, Tucks and Barossa Valley Estate, among others.
The Caulfield Racecourse grounds will be transformed with theatrical flame sculptures, live music and a fire garden to provide a suitably cosy setting.
Tickets include a complimentary glass of wine or whisky tasting and a souvenir glass. Saturday has already sold out, so get in fast.
