Sat 10th February, 2024
10:00am – 1:00pm
Queen Victoria Gardens, Melbourne
Try your hand at the art of weaving and create your very own striped masterpiece in this workshop led by Japanese textile artist Misako Nakahir.

As part of its MMeets series, MPavilion is teaming up with the Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) to host a weaving workshop led by Japanese textile artist and lecturer Misako Nakahira.

No previous weaving experience? No worries. Nakahir will guide participants through the basics of weaving in this hands-on morning session. Using a range of everyday materials including paper, wool offcuts and recycled fabrics, you’ll learn different weaving techniques to help you create your own vibrant striped designs.

Nakahir – who’s name ironically means “a weaver of beautiful silk fabrics” in Kanji – explores a wide range of mediums through her work such as paper weaving, tapestry, ikat, felting, macrame and yarn spinning. After studying in Kyoto and exploring her craft, she’s now received a residency with the ATW.

Entry is free and all materials are included.

Due to limited capacity, registration is essential to secure a spot.
