Vitra 100 Miniatures
One hundred tiny chairs are coming to Melbourne direct from the Vitra Design Museum. The German institution has been making diminutive replicas of the world’s most famous chairs for nearly two decades.
Built to one-sixth of their original size, the chairs are constructed with the same materials, colours and techniques as the real deal. The petite seats will be displayed on towering plinths at Richmond design showroom Living Edge along with 40 wall-mounted panels detailing the history and blueprints behind each design.
With chairs based on the creations of design heavyweights such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Michael Thonet, Charles Eames and Frank Gehry on display, the exhibition celebrates 200 years of design, spanning the Industrial Revolution, art nouveau, modernism, post-war design and post-modernism.
From the timeless Windsor chair to Philippe Starck’s iconic Louis 20, 100 Miniatures is one for design fans and history buffs.
