This four-course dinner will use as much produce as possible from the bushfire-affected areas in Gippsland and its surrounds.

On Valentine’s Day, the chefs at South Melbourne’s Half Acre will be showing some love to the farmers and suppliers in the state’s bushfire-affected areas.

They’ve created a four-course menu specifically for the event, which is built around produce from Gippsland and its surrounding areas. At each two-hour sitting there’ll be a number of appetisers and a dessert plate, with your choice of entree and main.

Highlights include Lakes Entrance John Dory with aniseed myrtle consommé, green peas and shoots; Macedon duck breast with wattleseed (from East Gippsland's Reedy Creek), candied orange crust, crisp legs, baby carrots and burnt citrus; and porterhouse from Gippsland's Corinella area with horseradish, chimichurri, jus, black garlic and lemon myrtle.

As part of the dessert plate: chocolate pudding with strawberries from Berry Sensation in West Gippsland's Shady Creek, Davidson's plum and sour-cherry-whipped crème fraiche (also from Gippsland).
