TWMA Open Weekend 2019
In the Yarra Ranges, an hour from the city, is one of Victoria’s most spectacular contemporary art galleries, TarraWarra Museum of Art (TWMA).
Once a year, it drops its entry fee, puts on a makers’ market and hosts two huge days of creative workshops, tours and entertainment.
In the marketplace you’ll find stalls from 25 impressive local artists, makers and designers, selling everything from ceramics and jewellery, to clothes.
There’s a free landscape sketching workshop and drop-in workshops for kids. It’s also the perfect time to check out the gallery’s current exhibitions, Tracey Moffatt: Body Remembers, Katie West: Clearing and Thought Patterns: Selected Works From the Collection.
Live music is happening across the weekend, and food trucks will be on-site if you’re not one for picnicking – although the striking surrounds might sway you.
For those who don’t feel like driving, for $40 to $70, the Makers Trail offers a curated day of art. The bus leaves from the city at 9.15am, takes in the Dandenong Ranges Open Studios in the morning and TWMA in the afternoon.
From 11am to 5pm.
