A heroine in disguise, practical jokes aplenty, romance, and an all-star Australian-led cast.

The MTC’s treatment of Shakespeare’s classic rom-com Twelfth Night is already proving irresistible to Melburnians, and new January shows have been added due to popular demand.

The tale of separated siblings, mistaken identities and complicated love triangles will play at Southbank Theatre from November 12, under the direction of Helpmann Award winner Simon Phillips (Macbeth; Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the Musical).

The new production will feature music by singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall (Muriel’s Wedding the Musical); the lush sets and period costumes are courtesy of Gabriela Tylesova.

You’ll recognise a few of the cast, which includes comedian and one half of Lano and Woodley Frank Woodley, Men at Work frontman Colin Hay, and Esther Hannaford (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) in the lead role of Viola, or Cesario.
