Trash Magic: Alchemy of the Found Object
Take the subway steps from Flinders Street down to Campbell Arcade, an underground shopping precinct from 1956.
It's lined with 12 window boxes – dubbed the Dirty Dozen – and right now there are 12 mixed media artwork on display inside.
The brief was simple: artists should take discarded, found or single-use rubbish and transform it through their art and creative process for an abstract standalone window. The result features pieces and sculptures recycling unique pieces of trash into treasure.
Campbell Arcade may be demolished later this year to make way for the Metro Tunnel Project, although concrete plans for its future have not yet been announced.
The exhibition is open to the public Mondays to Fridays 7am–7pm and on Saturdays 10am–5pm.
